Unlucky Blues leave St. Mels empty-handed.
Waterford United dropped further behind leaders Athlone after losing by the only goal of the game at
St. Mels Park last friday.
Despite the terrible playing condition the Blues came off second-best in an entertaining clash which saw
both sides create enough chances to have easily won the game.
The first half was pretty even but in the 42nd minute Athlones' Frawly rose superbly to nod in the only goal
of the game. The second half was dominated by the Blues but Eric Bradly was a shadow of his Sligo-self and
was no threat to the Athlone defence. With 10 minutes to go Brendan Rea moved forward as the Blues bombarded the
Athlone goalmouth but luck just wasn't with them. Inevitably Athlone had a few chances as the Blues left gaps at
the back but David Whittle, who played possibly his best ever game for the Blues, shored up the defence.
Best for Blues' :- David Whittle, Carl Mounty
Worst for Blues' :- Eric Bradly, Kevin Waters

Devine says goodbye to Blues.
Mick goes to Cork City
Soup-or-keeper! Mick Devine has said goodbye to the Blues after a very successful 3 years in Waterford.
He will join Munster rivals Cork City in a 3 1/2 year deal believed to be in the 15 - 25K region.
Mick had been on the transfer list since the end of last season unhappy at the prospect of playing first division
football again. The Blues meanwhile were struggling to pay his wages believed to be the highest at the club.
New Blues 'keeper.
Swansea City loan out Mounty:
Waterford United have reacted swiftly to replace departed 'keeper Mick Devine. They have signed 19 year old Carl
Mounty from Swansea City on a three month loan.
Mounty made an up and down debut for the Blues in the 2-2 draw with Monaghan. He made a couple of impressive saves but was
also at fault for the goals. Hopefully this is just part of a settleing process for him.
Carl signed for Swansea in July as a trainee and was third choice 'keeper behind Roger Freestone and Jason Jones. He hasn't
yet made a first team appearance for the Swans and manager John Hollins was willing to farm him out to gain some regular
first team action.
